As of December 2021, Cabinet agreed on a progressive procurement policy in local-and-central-government funded commercial projects to support Māori enterprise and access to opportunities. This policy suggests a target of 5% of the total number of buyer (mandated government agencies) procurement contracts awarded to Māori businesses.
Pūtahi Mahi will establish relationships in the commercial building sector with a goal of supplying materials to local independent suppliers and construction firms. In doing so, Pūtahi Mahi will assist in compliance with government policy. The provision of materials at competitive prices will also support the construction sector to deliver affordable housing. Affordable housing is key indicator of wellbeing and a key determinant of our standard of living.
